Biography/Autobiography Recommendation
January 21, 2004 at 07:51 AM · For my English class, I have to read a 200+ page biography or autobiography of anyone.
I am planning to read about a violinist (preferably) or any composer. Any violinist that had a very interesting life and have a biography/autobiography worth reading?

September 13, 2005 at 01:50 AM · Henry Roth's Violin Virtuosos from Paganini to the 21st Century is, IMO, both better written and more informative than the Boris Schwartz perusal of violinists.
Additionally, he makes his own biases eminently clear, which is quite refreshing.

However, it is likely that neither of these would suit your class requirements insofar as they contain many brief biographical sketches. I recently read a marvelously written book about Menuhin entitled, as I recall, Yehudi Menuhin (duh!).
